Password Management with Bitwarden
Learn to use Bitwarden to store and manage your passwords. You already have a Gmail password from Lesson 2 — your first task is to save that existing password safely in Bitwarden. From now on, every new password you create should be unique and strong.
Your project
Install Bitwarden and store your existing Gmail password in it. Understand that from now on, every password you create should be different and strong.
Steps
- Go to bitwarden.com and create a free account (or install the Bitwarden browser extension / app).
- Set a strong master password for Bitwarden — this is the only password you must remember.
- In Bitwarden, create a new login entry for Gmail and paste in your current Gmail password (the one you used in Lesson 2).
- Save the entry so Bitwarden now securely stores your Gmail password.
- Optional but recommended: Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) for your Gmail account.
Why every password must be different
If you use the same password on many sites and one website gets hacked, attackers can try that password on all your other accounts. Using a unique password for every site means a leak on one site cannot be used to break into your other accounts.
- Never reuse passwords across different websites or apps.
- Let Bitwarden generate long, random passwords for you when you create new accounts.
- Only memorize your Bitwarden master password.
